Head

Relative to the rest of the body, the head arguably requires the most work. Not including the monoeye, there are four different places to which you need to either apply color correcting decals, or paint (I chose to split the difference, going half and half). It’s precision work either way; the decals are so small that you can easily tear them apart, while painting requires a small brush and a steady hand.

Additionally, there is a nasty seamline that runs along the entire head. I normally leave seamlines alone, but this one was too much even for me. I did my best to use some cement and sandpaper to buff it out.

It’s been almost another month since I last touched the Messer. The last time I took so many breaks during a build, I was a new father.

Let’s see how far I can get this time around.

Lower Torso

Folks, I don’t know what else to say anymore. These pieces are huge. Again. I mean, just look at that skirt armor. Or just look at the inner frame! ’ve never leg pegs that large, even on Master Grades. They look like handlebars.

It’s been a few months since I last touched the High Grade Messer. Looking at the legs, I think I know why.

Legs

The plastic looks so … cheap. We may not have to worry about blemishes on the underside like we did with the shield, but this is still another case where we need to do some serious doctoring in order to make this thing look halfway decent. I’m pretty sure that scared me off from continuing the build back in May. I just wasn’t in the mood to do that.

But here I am now, with a brief fit of inspiration and motivation. Let’s put these together while I’m still willing.

During Home Alone 2022, I went to the hobby store to look for supplies, and maybe a new model kit. I checked their website, and the only thing they had that looked intriguing was the High Grade Guntank.

Alas, they were sold out of Guntanks when I got there, but I did find something else. Something I haven’t actually seen in stock anywhere since it came out two years ago. And since I’ve heard so many good things about it, I decided to get it while the getting was good.

So here it is folks - the High Grade Messer, from the recent(ish)ly released film Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway Part 1, as well as the original 1989 novelization Hathaway’s Flash.
