I already have my next build in mind, but I’m going to put it on hold for now. It’s a Master Grade, and very special one at that. And like many of my Master Grade builds, it is going to involve multiple intro post before even getting to the build. That means taking lots of screenshots, doing some research, and of course gathering all my thoughts.
In short, it’s going to take some work, and rather than try to rush through it, I’m going to work on it bit by bit, and then start publishing the posts in April.
In the meantime, I’m going to wrap up the month of March with a bit of backlog cleanup. There are a pair of kits I worked on in late December; one is finished, and one is almost finished, and they’ve been sitting in a box ever since. This seems like as good a time as any to knock them out:
Yes, it’s the final two Planet Armors. It’s the end of an era.
Specifically, here we have the Veetwo Gundam, and the Marsfour. If you’ll recall, these are two of the initial five Planet Armors from the first half of Build Divers Re:Rise. From a Gunpla perspective, this is a great thing, as I find all of these OG armors to be way better than the Core Gundam II armors from the second half of the show. They’re sturdier, they have better accessories, and they just look better.
These two models are also outliers among all the Planet Armors. All of the other Armors either come in a complete set (with Core Gundam included), or sold a la carte (with armor, weapons, and Core Gundam sold separately). But in the case of these two, the Core Gundam and Armor are sold together, and only the weapons are sold separately.
I’m not entirely sure why this is the case. It’s true they each come with a special Core Gundam in alternate colors - but so did the Jupitive, and that came as a complete set. Who really knows what drives the decisions made by Bandai corporate?
Tuckered Out
If you’re wondering why I didn’t complete these builds in December, it’s simply that I’m tired of building (and detailing) Planet Armors. I still love the concept, but it turns out that building eight or so kits that are nearly identical isn’t as fun as I thought it would be. I’m very glad to be putting these behind me.
One More Thought
You’ll notice that the weapons for the Marsfour are in a bag, rather than in a box. That’s because I bought them a while ago, well before I watched Build Divers Re:Rise, because I wanted a bunch of swords to use with my other models.
Of course, I only ended up using them with one model, so they were kind of a waste for that purpose. But now they can finally be used for their true destiny.
